Inelastic Analysis Techniques in Seismic Evaluations

چکیده

The analytical methods available to the design engineer today are either dynamic time history analyses, or monotonic static nonlinear analyses, or equivalent static analyses with simulated inelastic influences. This paper suggests in addition to the inelastic time history analyses, some simplified analyses techniques based on equating the seismic demand expressed in terms of response spectra with the inelastic capacity described in terms of force-deformation characteristics. The inelastic response in terms of accelerations and maximum displacements can be evaluated accurately, for a single-degree-of-freedom (s.d.o.f.) system, or approximately for a multi-degrees-of-freedom (m.d.o.f.) system. Such method is similar with the proposed technique for evaluation of response by NEHRP, 1996 to be released in the future codes

Evaluation of the Seismic Response of Single-Story RC Frames under Biaxial Earthquake Excitations

This paper summarizes the lessons learned from a full-scale test on two RC frame prototypes that have recently been tested on LNEC shaking-table using four pairs of biaxial synthetic ground motion records during 15WCEE Conference (2012). The reference structures are two single-story RC frames which are geometrically identical but with different reinforcement details. The simplified inelastic mo...

A Phenomenological Study on Inelastic Torsion Caused By Nonlinear Behavior Changes during Earthquake Excitations

Torsion of many symmetric structures, which were designed based on the seismic codes, is due to their asymmetricity induced during inelastic behavior. Although the structure was designed symmetrically assuming elastic based criteria, different factors such as material inconsistency in structure, construction details discrepancy and construction errors may result in asymmetric behavior in inelas...

SEISMIC ENERGY DEMANDS OF INELASTIC BUILDINGS DESIGNED WITH OPTIMUM DISPLACEMENT-BASED APPROACH

In present study, the effects of optimization on seismic energy spectra including input energy, damping energy and yielding hysteretic energy are parametrically discussed. To this end, 12 generic steel moment-resisting frames having fundamental periods ranging from 0.3 to 3s are optimized by using uniform damage and deformation approaches subjected to a series of 40 non-pule strong ground motio...

Evaluation of Torsional Provisions of Seismic Codes Considering Effects of Soil-Structure Interaction

In this study, the effective parameters on the inelastic response of asymmetric buildings is evaluated for an ensemble of real Iranian earthquake records by considering soil-structure interaction. Then, the design eccentricity obtained from the inelastic dynamic soil-structure analysis is compared with the design eccentricity of seisimic codes of Iran, ATC-3, New Zeland, Canada, Mexico, Austral...
